Implementing task-based language education in primary education

Abstract This article provides a critical analysis of the language policy measures that were taken by Flemish government (Belgium) to improve quality teaching national (Dutch) in compulsory education Flanders and system Brussels. It builds on Van den Branden (2006a) , which documented implementation task-based (TBLT) primary, secondary adult period between 1995 2005. Focusing primary education, this examines different periods trends government’s attempts push innovation Dutch analyses its impact practice schooling. The highlights gradual shift focus from introducing TBLT materials supporting individual teacher mandating design school-wide involving whole school team, top-down more bottom-up driven, collaborative process. major aim is identify factors impacted effects policy, against backdrop growing influx pupils who do not acquire (the main medium instruction) as their mother tongue.
